Annette Bening and Ellen Laugh About Warren Beatty’s Past Crush on Ellen
Acclaimed actress Annette Bening stopped by Ellen on Friday, and she and host Ellen DeGeneres had a good laugh about the November appearance of Bening’s husband, Warren Beatty, on the show. During Beatty’s interview, he awkwardly brought up the fact that he’d had a crush on DeGeneres in the mid-’90s when she appeared on The Larry Sanders Show, starring the late, great Garry Shandling, a good friend of Beatty’s. Beatty, of course, had no chance with DeGeneres, a well-known lesbian whose sexual orientation wasn’t public knowledge then, but there is a much bigger issue: He was married to Bening at the time.
Beatty and Bening were married in in 1992. DeGeneres appeared on The Larry Sanders Show in 1996 and 1998. A married man having a little crush is harmless, but Beatty took it further than that. He admitted to DeGeneres that he had tried unsuccessfully to get Shandling to hook him up with her. You might think that a wife would find this behavior from her husband disturbing, but in this case, you’d be wrong. Bening said that at the time, she knew about Beatty’s crush on DeGeneres because he talked about her all the time.
