Anya Taylor-Joy Would Love To Take On This Disney Princess Role

If Disney were to ever produce a live-action adaption of its hit animated film, "Frozen," Anya Taylor-Joy would love to get a call.

"Frozen," which stars Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf), and Jonathan Groff (Kristoff), has captivated audiences worldwide since it premiered in 2013, and several follow-up movies are currently in development, including a third installment, which will hit theaters on November 24, 2027.

Although the plot details for "Frozen 3" remain secret, Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee shared in October 2023 that she has been "blown away" by the progress and creativity shown by the filmmakers so far.

While Anya Taylor-Joy is not set to appear in the third "Frozen" film, she says she would love to appear in a live-action adaptation if Disney were to ever make one.

In a cover interview for Vogue Hong Kong's September 2024 issue, the 28-year-old actress talked about her desire to do a musical, noting that she's "a bit addicted to hard work."

"I would love to do a musical because I’m a bit addicted to hard work," she told the outlet. "I like having an impossible mountain to climb. The idea of having to be able to sing, dance, and act at the same time would just really thrill me."

When asked about her dream Disney role, Taylor-Joy responded, "I think 'Frozen' would be pretty great. It would be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand."

"Also, you’d just be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party," she added. "All of my siblings have children now, so I would love for them to be able to say, 'My auntie is Elsa.’ That would be pretty sick."

She landed her first audition for the film "Maleficent," though it ultimately went to Ella Purnell.

Taylor-Joy has a diverse cultural background. Her father, of Argentine and Scottish heritage, relocated the family for his job as an international banker when she was a baby. Her mother, originally from Zambia, has Spanish and English ancestry.

"It has taken me a really long time to be able to just enjoy it as a strength rather than a feeling of ‘I’m not enough of anything to be able to fit in anywhere,'" she told the outlet of having such a diverse background. "A lot of things that are incredible strengths when you’re a kid, as an adult it feels like you just get a lot of programming or messaging back which is ‘you’re not from here.’"

"I think my favorite thing about my upbringing and part of the reason why I love to travel so much is because I have a lot of time and empathy and love for other people’s cultures," the actress added. "While I have a lot of pride in all the cultures that I come from, I really don’t think I’m better than anything or anyone. And I like that approach to the world. I see everything as an opportunity to learn rather than an opportunity to judge. Life is more fun that way."

While she rose to fame thanks to her acting skills, Anya Taylor-Joy has another passion--traveling and writing. In fact, she says she would be a National Geographic writer if she weren't on the big screen.

"I really love to travel and getting to know other people’s cultures. I’ve realized that I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so I think that plays into it," she told Vogue. "Or I’d be working with animals – I’ve always loved orcas and tigers specifically, so whatever would let me work with both of them. Oh, a National Geographic writer! That’s what I’d be doing."

Despite branching into a different genre of performing arts, dance remains a crucial element of her career.

"My background as a dancer has helped me with everything in my life. It’s not only the discipline that it instills in you," she told the outlet. "I danced ballet from ages 3 to 15, and it doesn’t matter if you go to a party; you’re up at five o’clock in the morning to get to that six o’clock dance lesson."

Taylor-Joy shared that her ballet training helped her memorize chess moves during the filming of “The Queen's Gambit” and improved her stunts in “Furiosa.”

"I see acting as a rhythm thing; I almost hear it as music, and that helps so much with stunt choreography because you’re in a dance with every other performer around you," she continued. "So you don’t only know your own beats, you know everybody else’s beats in order to keep everyone safe."
