'Ant-Man' deleted scenes: Paul Rudd is a cable guy in first meeting with Michael Douglas

The first meeting between Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) in Ant-Man could have been much more cordial. In a deleted scene released by Marvel, the thieving soon-to-be-superhero dresses up as a cable guy to size up his target.

“Had this remained in the film, this would have been Hank Pym’s intro in [the] present-day movie,” director Peyton Reed says in the commentary laid over the clip. We see Lang in disguise as he scopes out the scene before he breaks into the mysterious vault in Pym’s basement. Shedding more light on this interaction, Rudd says that Pym, too, is playing a con in pretending to be much older and hearing inept than he is.

“We ended up cutting it out because it felt like, with all the other stuff that happens with [Lang] dismantling the fingerprint lock and getting in the safe, we definitely told the story of Scott Lang being resourceful as a burglar,” Reed continues. “And also, I think, we wanted to introduce Pym in a different way.”

More extra details from Ant-Man are on the way, as the film will be available on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on Tuesday, and on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD Dec. 8.
