'The Danish Girl' starring Eddie Redmayne gets awards season release date
Gearing up for next year’s Oscars, Focus Features and Working Title will release The Danish Girl this Thanksgiving weekend.
The film starring Eddie Redmayne will be available for limited engagements in New York and Los Angeles beginning Nov. 27, Focus Features announced Wednesday.
Inspired by true events, the love story follows Einar and Gerda Wegener, whose marriage is put to the test when Einar embarks on a transformative journey to become Lili Elbe, one of the world’s first transgender women to have sexual reassignment surgery.
The Danish Girl reunites Redmayne with director Tom Hooper, who also worked with him on Les Misérables. “It’s an extraordinary story of identity, of love. Tom [Hooper] sent it to me a couple of years ago and it just blew me away.”
He is joined by co-stars Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, Anna Karenina) and Amber Heard (The Rum Diary, Machete Kills).
