'Fifty Shades of Grey' star Hunnam talks chemistry with Dakota Johnson
Christian Grey is all anyone can talk about.
Charlie Hunnam may have been attending the season 6 premiere of his FX biker show Sons of Anarchy, but the Fifty Shades of Grey star was eager to talk about the upcoming project and tease fans and reporters with details of his first readings with co-star Dakota Johnson.
“As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us,” Hunnam told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere. “It felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it.”
Hunnam also revealed that he went straight to the source material to learn more. “I went and read the first book to get a clearer idea of who this character was, and felt even more excited about the prospect of bringing him to life,” he said, admitting that even his girlfriend loved the books.
As far as the explicit nature of the book and the scenes between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, Hunnam said: “My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer as Folk. It was incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man.” He added: “I mean I’m 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady.”
