'Saturday Night Live' Names Colin Jost and Michael Che Co-Head Writers
A well-deserved promotion!
NBC announced Tuesday that Colin Jost and Michael Che were named co-head writers of Saturday Night Live.
The pair have been hosting "Weekend Update" since 2014. They will join the show's current head writers, Bryan Tucker and Kent Sublette, both of whom are remaining in their roles. Sudi Green and Fran Gillespie were also named writing supervisors in the announcement.
Jost, a four-time WGA Award winner and Peabody Award recipient who is currently dating Scarlett Johansson, joined SNL in 2005 as a writer. He was previously a head writer from 2012 to 2015 alongside Seth Meyers and then Tucker.
Before joining SNL in 2013, Che appeared on The Daily Show. The new appointment makes him the first person of color to have the title of head writer.
It's a been a major year for the long-running sketch show. Not only have they been able to capitalize on an insane year of politics (we're looking at you, Alec Baldwin/President Donald Trump), they're going strong after nabbing nine statues at the 2017 Emmys.
