'Star Wars 1313': LucasArts announces bounty hunter game
LucasArts announced an intriguing new update to the Star Wars mythos this morning. Star Wars 1313 is a videogame set on Level 1313, a subterranean section of Coruscant that is the home of the criminal underworld — the polar opposite of the glittering skyscrapers on the surface. (So, Space New Jersey.) In a press release, LucasArts said that gamers will play as “a lethal bounty hunter” — which does not quite confirm our own Star Wars expert Christian Blauvelt’s theory that this is a Boba Fett game, but it doesn’t disprove that theory, either.
The press release is vague about specific game play, mentioning “agile cover-based combat, epic platforming, and seamless playable cinematic game play,” which could describe any videogame. But the intriguing thing here is that LucasArts calls this a “new mature Star Wars world.” “Mature” is the operative word there. The franchise took a somewhat dark-ish turn with the Force Unleashed sub-saga, but this seems like a dive into a more adult take on the series. In my headbrain, I’m picturing something close in spirit to the Cam Kennedy Boba Fett comics or A.C. Crispin’s Han Solo trilogy.
Not much information is available about the game yet, but expect revelations soon — Star Wars 1313 will almost certainly be making an appearance at E3.
