Produced by Newen Studios-backed Ringside Studio in the UK and Leonis Productions in France, the high-stakes thriller follows two agents (played by Cassel and Green) and former lovers, who must work together in a post-Brexit era to counter violent international cyberattacks that threaten the United Kingdom, while facing the explosive buried secrets of their past relationship. With an international backdrop that includes London, Paris, Brussels and Syria, Liaison explores how the mistakes of the past have the potential to destroy the future. Peter Mullan (Ozark; Mum; The Lords of the Rings – The Rings of Power), Gerard Lanvin (Call My Agent!), Daniel Francis (Small Axe), Laetitia Eido (Fauda), BAFTA Rising Star Award-winner Bukky Bakray (Rocks) and Emmy-winner Thierry Fremont (Murder in Mind) also star.
Newen Connect CEO Rodolphe Buet said Liaison has “found the perfect home in France on TF1,” which has also bought the likes of CBS’ SWAT and ABC’s Will Trent in the past.
Sophie Leveaux, Artistic Director of Acquisitions & International Drama Development, TF1, added: “With its first-rate cast and high production standards, Liaison will be a great addition to TF1’s programming and for streaming on TF1+.”
The deal is reflective of how lucrative Apple content can be for distributors in its second window, whether exclusive or non-exclusive. Speaking to Deadline before the London TV Screenings, the president of distribution for Fifth Season revealed the outfit was selling more than $1B worth of Apple content. Prentiss Fraser had said there is “little crossover” between Apple TV+ subscribers and regular linear broadcast viewers in crucial territories.
Liaison was written and created by Virginie Brac (Canal+’s Spiral; Arte’s Cannabis; TF1’s Insoup?onnable) and directed by Emmy award winner Stephen Hopkins (24; House of Lies; The Fugitive).
