Ariana Grande speaks out after Pete Davidson's bullying post: 'I care deeply about Pete and his health'

Yes, Ariana Grande saw Pete Davidson’s post about being bullied during and after their relationship.

The pop star responded to the Saturday Night Live comedian’s emotional Instagram early Tuesday morning. Alongside the text of his post — which said he’s been harassed online and in the real world for the last nine months, but “no matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t” — she posted this message to her fans:

“i know u already know this but I feel I need to remind my fans to please be gentler with others,” Grande wrote. “i really don’t endorse anything but forgiveness and positivity. i care deeply about pete and his health. i’m asking you to please be gentler with others, even on the internet. i’ve learned thru my own mistakes not to be reactive on socials so i do understand. but you truly don’t know what anybody is experiencing ever. regardless of what they choose to display on social media or how they may appear in public. i can promise u that. so please let whatever point you’re trying to make go. I will always have irrevocable love for him and if you’ve gotten any other impression from my recent work, you might have missed the point 🖤.”

Soon after, Davidson posted his own Instagram Story featuring a black screen with Kid Cudi’s “Cudi Zone” playing. “I’m feelin’ alright, I’m feelin’ alright, I’m feelin’ alright” were the lyrics.

During Davidson’s brief relationship with Grande, he received death threats for dating her. “Someone wanted to shoot me in the face because she’s so hot,” he told Howard Stern in late September, just weeks before they called off their engagement. “You know how insane that is? It’s like, ‘Am I that ugly that people want to shoot me in the face?’” Davidson has borderline personality disorder and contemplated suicide in elementary school (not long after his dad died in the 9/11 attacks).

Since their October split, the comedian has been mostly off social media, so when he posted last week about his film Big Time Adolescence being in the Sundance Film Festival, most of the comments were personal attacks or remarks about Grande. That led to Grande’s manager Scooter Braun, who set up the pair last spring, to post a comment defending Davidson, whom he described as a “stand up guy.”

While their romance didn’t work out, Grande’s latest hit song, “Thank U, Next,” shows she has lots of love for him still. The lyric about Davidson goes, “Even almost got married/ And for Pete, I’m so thankful.” She even devoted part of the video to him — the riff with Jennifer Coolidge about her ex’s “big d*** energy.” Clearly, though, some fans missed her positive messages. Maybe they’ll see them more clearly now.
