What Season of The Voice Did Camryn Brooks Originally Audition For?
Brooks first auditioned for The Voice during Season 21 in 2021, but surprisingly, none of the coaches on the show — Blake Shelton, Ariana Grande, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson — turned for her.
After her 2021 The Voice audition, Grande encouraged Brooks to try again. “The reason why you will succeed when you return is because of the way you handled this moment, and you are clearly not afraid to do the work,” the singer told her. “Please come back.”
Clarkson said of Brooks’ audition, “You know, if Camryn can really tap into who she is, I think that she’s going to make an incredible vocalist.”

During The Voice Season 26 October 14 episode, Brooks returned for the blind auditions again and seemed to take what Grande and Clarkson said to heart. This time, she nailed the audition, singing “Light On” by Maggie Rogers, earning chair turns from all four coaches: Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani.
She told the coaches, “I’m literally crying right now because this is like, absolutely unreal. I was a contestant on Season 21 and I didn’t get any chair turns. I didn’t ever envision I was going to get four so this is literally a dream come true.” Brooks chose Team Gwen.
Stefani’s comment echoed what Clarkson said about Brooks after her 2021 audition. “I would listen to that voice on a record. It’s round, it’s soothing… it would be really fun to work with you because I feel like we could pick some really cool songs and define who you are,” Stefani said.
Brooks said her Season 21 audition rejection “was just the most gut-wrenching feeling ever,” and she “felt sad but really inspired,” but then she was thrown “a huge curveball” when she was diagnosed with the heart condition myocarditis.
“It was really scary because I couldn’t get out more than three words at a time,” she explained. “I couldn’t even really talk without gasping for air. The first thought that came to my mind was, ‘Am I going to be able to sing again?’ In that moment, you just think, ‘Am I going to die? I’m too young to have this happen.’”
Brooks continued, “I think going through something as scary as that really puts into perspective what matters. You realize you need to fight for what you want. Now three years later I can finish a song, and I can dance a little.”

She put in a lot of hard “nonstop” work to get back to The Voice. “I’m just so blessed to even be here,” she said.
The coaches expressed how thrilled they were to see Brooks giving the competition another try. McEntire said, “We tell so many contestants if they don’t get a chair turn, to please come back.”
After Brooks noted that this “opportunity is so scary, even being back for a second time…,” McEntire told her, “I’m so glad you’re here with us. That was a wonderful job. You sing so beautifully.”
Snoop noted, “Your voice, your tone, your composure, your stage presence, all that’s very important and then to find out that you were here before and you came back. We say it all the time when we try to say the right words to make people feel comfortable with coming back. You’re the perfect example of that. You should be commended for that.”
