Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo along with the team behind the upcoming “Wicked’ film have paid homage to the story’s roots on stage. They hosted a special cast and filmmakers screening at New York City’s DGA Theater on Oct. 28, where guests also included the original and current Broadway casts of the show. At the event bridging stage and screen, the film’s stars showed off the versatility of pumps with their on-theme outfits.
Erivo brought a casually stylish Elphaba energy to the event with her ensemble, the foundation of which included faded blue jeans with a slight flare and a simple white tee. She embraced her character’s famous skin color with a vibrant jacket featuring an abstract pattern with multiple hues of green in it. While Grande left her character’s signature pink at home, she looked prim in an ivory ensemble including a fitted vest and A-line skirt that fell past her knees. She leaned into the formal aesthetic with a pair of white elbow-length gloves.
Both actresses completed their ensembles with a pair of traditional pumps. Erivo maintained her Elphaba theme with a satiny emerald green pair that caught the light. Wearing a similar silhouette, Grande created a cohesive monochrome aesthetic with a pair of white pumps. She specifically wore a custom Gianvito 105 from the Italian brand Gianvito Rossi. Both women’s shoes featured a pointed toe and a stiletto heel.
Erivo and Grande have both been very dedicated to method dressing for “Wicked” ahead of the film’s November release. In July, they attended the Paris Olympics opening ceremony in green and pink ensembles, respectively.
While Erivo wore gleaming green pumps, Grande wore pink and white brogue pumps from Thom Browne. Back in April at CinemaCon, Erivo wore a pair of thigh-high platform boots in a shiny hue of green while Grande wore white Jimmy Choo pumps.
