Arnold Schwarzenegger Opens Up About Katherine's Engagement to Chris Pratt for the First Time
Arnold Schwarzenegger is giving his official seal of approval on his daughter’s engagement to Chris Pratt.
A few weeks after Pratt popped the question to Katherine Schwarzenegger, the Terminator actor sat down for an interview on Extra with Mario Lopez when he revealed his thoughts on his future son-in-law for the very first time.
“That was really fantastic. She is so happy, they both are so happy,” Arnold, 71, said of the couple’s engagement in the interview shared on Thursday. “As I said to him, he is such a likable guy. I love Chris — he’s fantastic.”
The former bodybuilder went on to reveal that Pratt, 39, asked for his blessing in the “traditional way” before proposing to Katherine, 29.
“He’s a wonderful guy,” Arnold added. “They both look really great together, they’re both happy together, so I wish them both the best of luck.”
It’s no surprise that Arnold has welcomed Pratt into the family with open arms. Years before The Guardians of the Galaxy actor proposed to Arnold’s daughter, he was becoming fast friends with his future father-in-law in 2015.
That year, right after the release of Jurassic World, James Corden of The Late Late Show shared a picture of a wall that Pratt had signed. He couldn’t help but express his excitement about writing his name next to the legendary bodybuilder.
“Right next to FRIGGIN’ ARNOLD!” the Parks and Recreation alum wrote.
After seeing the image, Arnold followed up with his own supportive tweet: “I’m right next to friggin’ CHRIS PRATT. Congrats on the monster opening weekend, @prattprattpratt. You deserve it.”
Pratt and Schwarzenegger announced their engagement earlier this month, following a whirlwind romance that saw them fall for each other over the summer.
Though the pair — who met through Katherine’s mother, Maria Shriver — have only been together since June, things heated up rather quickly.
“Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!” Pratt captioned an Instagram photo of himself cuddling up to his wife-to-be, whose engagement ring was front and center.

Joining her fiancé, Katherine shared the happy news on her Instagram.
“My sweet love. Wouldn’t want to live this life with anyone but you,” she wrote in the caption alongside a red heart emoji and a ring emoji.
Shriver, 63, also congratulated the couple in the comments of Pratt’s Instagram. “Congratulations to two loving kind caring thoughtful Spiritual people,” she wrote. “We are so happy for you, you are blessed as is everyone who knows you yes let’s go.”
A source previously told PEOPLE that the couple has since moved in together.
