Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone both took to social media to honor and remember the legendary actor Carl Weathers, following the actor’s passing last week.

Joining in with countless other tributes, Schwarzenegger shared a photo of the pair on set of the 1987 classic Predator. The actor said the movie couldn’t have been made without Weathers, and that every minute on set with him was “pure joy.”

Elsewhere on social media, Stallone — who acted opposite Weathers in four of the Rocky movies — also honored the late actor in a video on Instagram. Standing in front of a painting showcasing their characters in the ring, Stallone said Weathers’ death has him “torn up,” and praised the brilliant actor.

“Today is an incredibly sad day for me. I’m so torn up, I can’t even tell you. I’m just trying to hold it in because Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success — everything about it, I give him incredible credit and kudos. Because when he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness. But I didn’t realize how great,” Stallone said (via Variety). “I never could’ve accomplished what we did with ‘Rocky’ without him.

“He was absolutely brilliant — his voice, his size, his presence, his athletic ability, but, most importantly, his heart, his soul. It’s a horrible loss. He was magic. I was so fortunate to be part of his life. Apollo, keep punching.”

Weathers had a number of iconic roles throughout his career

Weathers is best known for his roles in the Rocky franchise, where he starred as Apollo Creed in the first four films and as Colonel Al Dillon in the 1987 sci-fi action movie Predator.

Weathers also had several other high-profile roles, including playing Combat Carl in the Toy Story franchise, playing a fictionalized version of himself in the comedy series Arrested Development, and, most recently, a recurring role in The Mandalorian as Greef Karga, a role in which he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2021.
