Ashanti And Nelly Reportedly Got Married Privately In 2023
Are Nelly and Ashanti in their official honeymoon phase? According to reports, the two tied the knot at the end of last year. On Wednesday (June 19) TMZ detailed public records that note the couple’s marriage certificate in St. Louis County, MO, signed on Dec. 27, 2023.
While the two may have privately made their rekindled love official, a public ceremony might still be in the works. The “Baby” singer recently revealed her plans for a colorful wedding to Entertainment Tonight. According to the outlet, Ashanti names “beach, sunshine and palm trees all non-negotiables” for the big day.
Currently, the couple is expecting their first child together. The infant will be Ashanti’s first and Nelly’s third. The St. Louis rapper is the father to Chanelle, 29, and Cornell Haynes III, 24, as well as the adoptive parent to his late sister, Jackie Donahue’s, kids — Shawn and Sydney Thomas.
The two musicians first dated in 2003 and dated for 10 years before breaking up in 2013. Rapper Fat Joe has claimed he’s responsible for their new “happily ever after” after the two re-connected at his Verzuz battle against Ja Rule in 2021.
“Never in a million years did I think we would be here,” Ashanti exclaimed, referring to their past. “Ten years ago — maybe yes — but after our breakup, you know, I didn’t even think we’d ever have a conversation again.”
“The growth has been like superb, you know, like on both ends,” she continued. “We are both at a place where like before, sometimes we would argue and walk out, slam the door, and not talk for a few days. Now, it’s kinda like, ‘All right, you good?’ […] It’s not like holding on and bickering and we find out what the resolution is,” noting, “We are so, so aligned.”
