EXCLUSIVE: Ashley Nicole Black is doubling down on both sides of the camera.

The two-time past Emmy winner has joined the second season of Shrinking and the upcoming first season of Bad Monkey, I’ve learned.

However, Black’s’ addition to the two AppleTV+ series, executive produced by Bill Lawrence, is both a little unconventional and playing to all the Black Lady Sketch Show vet’s strengths. While it was already out there that Black was writing on the Vince Vaughn-led Bad Monkey, she will also be a member of the cast of the Florida-set restaurant-inspecting comedy. Also, having been part of the award-winning Ted Lasso writing team, Black is now joining Lawrence and Brett Goldstein on their Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams and Jason Segal-led therapists comedy show.

Like on Bad Monkey, Black will be both a writer on Shrinking Season 2 and a member of the cast.

What exactly the UTA-repped Black’s respective characters on the respective Warner Bros TV-produced series are is unknown at present. In that context, Black inked an overall deal with WBTV in late 2021 to develop original series for what is now Warner Bros Discovery’s platforms including streamer Max and cable outlets as well as rival streamers and linear broadcast networks.

Black won the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special category Emmy in 2017 for her work on Full Frontal With Samantha Bee Presents Not The White House Correspondents’ Dinner. In 2022, she was among the producers of Ted Lasso when the footie show scored the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy series.

Also presently penning her The Inheritance script for MRC, Black is represented by UTA, Mosaic, and attorney Jared Levine.
