Author Elena Armas Produces Romance Audiobook Starring Tyler Posey and Mary Mouser
Romance fans are in for a treat! The New York Times bestselling author of The Spanish Love Deception Elena Armas recently announced her newest project—a full-cast original rom-com audiobook starring Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey and Cobra Kai’s Mary Mouser. But there are two plot twists in this story: Armas didn’t write the romance book, and it will only be available as an audiobook. What to know about the new Elena Armas audiobook
The rom-com audiobook—entitled Know Your Newlywed—was written by Heather Taylor and Hillary Nussbaum, both of whom are best known for their work in TV and podcasting. The audiobook will be released on December 10, 2024, with Armas serving as executive producer for the project.
“This is the kind of story that is fun. It has fake dating. It has all the things we love about romance and reality TV but with sound effects and music and an incredible cast,” Armas said in a promotional video posted by her, Taylor, Nussbaum and Simon & Schuster Audio.
TV stars Tyler Posey and Mary Mouser will lead the cast. Posey will play Javi, and Mouser will play Cleo.
“It's a full-cast rom-com audiobook. It's basically a TV show for your ears,” Posey said in a promotional video. “It's written by Heather Taylor, Hillary Nussbaum and executive produced by Elena Armas. So you know it's going to be good.”
His co-narrator Mouser echoed her excitement about the project: “It has tons of sound effects, and obviously, the most important aspect, which is a swoon-worthy love story…You are not going to wanna miss it.”
What is the new audiobook about?
If the audiobook’s star-studded cast didn’t have you swooning already, the plot most definitely will. The story follows researcher Cleo, who dreams of getting her PhD in anthrozoology. She also has a guilty obsession with the old game show Know Your Newlywed where couples compete by answering obscure questions about one another. But lately, Cleo spends more time focusing on her career than her love life. So when she comes across Javi’s dating app profile, which says he's “looking for someone to win Know Your Newlywed with,” her interest is piqued. Then, Cleo and Javi hear about a reboot of their favorite show and apply…under the guise that they’re newlyweds. What follows is a series of hilarious antics, swoon-worthy moments and undeniable chemistry. Will Cleo and Javi’s connection really last?
And while Armas might not have written this tale, it makes sense that she is attached to the project: after all, it includes the reader-favorite “fake dating trope.” Armas is known for loving this trope, as demonstrated in her best-selling debut novel The Spanish Love Deception—which went viral on TikTok a couple of years ago.
“One morning, six months after I wrote The Spanish Love Deception, I woke up to hundreds of tags online,” Armas told First for Women in June 2024. “‘That was the start of it all. It was a life changer—like, really, a huge life changer.”
In total, Armas has written four best-selling books, the most recent of which was The Fiance Dilemma, which hit shelves in June 2024.
“The Fiancé Dilemma has all the things we love about those rom-coms from the ’90s and the 2000s, but with a current twist,” the author said at the time of the release. “And rightfully so, because in a lot of ways this story started as me trying to reimagine Runaway Bride and wanting to give that story the ending I wanted. So, it has all of these things—and spice.”
Know Your Newlywed, out December 10, is available for preorder now.
