Avatar 3 New Title and Release Date Confirmed at D23

In December, it was revealed that Avatar 3 is not called The Seed Bearer by the franchise's producer, Jon Landau.

Landau didn't offer any clues as to what the film might be named instead, leaving fans to wonder what the next chapter of the Avatar story will be titled and when we might find out.

There's no need to wonder anymore because James Cameron took D23 as an opportunity to quell the mystery, with stars of the first two films, Zoe Salda?a and Sam Worthington, also in attendance.

Cameron told fans that he "came 7,000 miles from New Zealand for this" before revealing the stunning first preview of the concept art for the film which culminated with the title's reveal: Avatar: Fire and Ash.

The prolific three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker explained his reasoning behind the name, saying, "Fire can represent hatred, violence, trauma, possible misuse of power. Ash represents the aftermath of all of that energy, which is grief and having to live with what you've done."

Cameron also told fans that Avatar: Fire and Ash "isn't what you expect, but it's definitely what you want", following the reveal of the stunning first preview of the concept art for the film which culminated with the title's reveal.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is set for a theatrical – including 3D – release on December 19, 2025.
