New 'Avengers: Endgame' trailer teases rematch between Thanos and Avengers
It’s a grudge match that’s been one year and a single finger snap in the making: the assembled surviving Avengers versus Thanos. That’s the dramatic confrontation teased at the end of the latest teaser for Avengers: Endgame, which Disney released today, along with the news that tickets for the super-sized final chapter in the current incarnation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are available now. (Watch the trailer below, and then visit Fandango and Atom Tickets for showtimes and ticket information. Better do it soon, though, because the movie is already crashing ticket sales sites.)
The trailer opens with the remaining Avengers contemplating their next move against Thanos. “If we do this, we’d be going in short-handed,” notes the group’s Hulk-deprived scientist, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). “Yeah, you mean because they killed all our friends,” snorts Rhodey (Don Cheadle), without any of his usual good humor. Well ... not all. Snapture survivors Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) have all made it back to Earth from deep space, while Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) has emerged from hiding and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) from the Quantum Realm. There’s a new teammate in the mix as well: galactic super-soldier, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) has responded to Nick Fury’s final desperate pager plea and stands ready to help.
So it’s back to space for the Avengers, but first, Tony spends some QT with the love of his life, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), the first footage we’ve seen of her since proof of life was confirmed via poster.
In addition to romance, Tony also makes time for bromance, taking a moment to mourn his dusted protege, Peter Parker (Tom Holland), and patch things up once and for all with his former Civil War adversary, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). “You trust me?” Tony asks. “I do,” Steve replies, as they grasp each others’ hands—the closest these two are probably ever getting to a hug.
Not surprisingly, this moment of reconciliation is getting lots of love on Twitter.

And then, just like that, it’s off to space! Captain Marvel pilots a ship carrying Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Rocket and War Machine, where they’ll take the fight to Thanos or, at least, his minions.

Despite hanging up his gauntlet at the end of Infinity War, Thanos (Josh Brolin) seems more than ready for Round 2. “You could not live with your own failure,” he taunts. “Where did that bring you? Back to me.” But this encounter may end differently: Twitter users have noticed that a shot from the teaser seems to indicate that the combined might of the Avengers is enough to overpower Thanos.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. It’s highly unlikely that Marvel would give away the end(game) of Endgame this early. That lends credence to a fan theory that’s been making the rounds on Reddit suggesting that the rematch with Thanos occurs early on in the movie’s three-hour runtime, and that the Avengers do emerge victorious. The rest of the film then involves them finding a way to bring back the dusted — a mission that would involve time travel via the time vortexes that we know exist in the Quantum Realm.
Need more evidence? Remember that previous trailers have shown the Avengers modeling new team suits that have also been preserved in toy form. And you’ll notice that they are not wearing those suits when they head into space in this latest teaser. So those blue-and-white uniforms could very well represent a separate mission entirely: one that requires them to follow Scott into one or more of the Quantum Realm’s time vortexes to undo Thanos’s snap.
And that’s not just, like, our own opinion, man: Twitter is also big on time-travel theories.
Tell me this doesn’t look like the same lighting and shots as the original Battle of New York. Cap is even wearing the same earpiece as he did in Avengers 1. #Endgame pic.twitter.com/nNQJDIBjFs

Now hear me out, what if the first time travel shenanigan that they'll do is when thanos was destroying xandar just before getting the first stone. This could be the avengers hq or xandar. But at the end of the day its just a theory. #AvengersEndgame pic.twitter.com/MT3NdCkDWK
