B.G. Released From Prison After Serving 14 Year Prison Sentence
B.G. has been released from prison after serving a 14-year federal prison sentence for weapons possession and obstruction of justice.
On Tuesday (Sept. 5), footage of the rapper walking out of the prison facility surfaced on social media, which captured Cash Money Records CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams and others greeting his former artist and collaborator with gifts and a warm embrace. “Real n**ga out, b**ch, let’s get with it,” the esteemed mogul said at one point during the clip.
B.G.’s prison term stemmed from a 2009 arrest in New Orleans after the rapper, Jerod Fedison, and Demounde Pollard were taken into custody following a traffic stop. A search of the vehicle, B.G. and the men were traveling with recovered multiple firearms, two of which were stolen, loaded magazines and two extended magazine clips.
The rapper and Pollard of the two men were hit with an initial charge of illegal gun possession, while Fedison received multiple drug charges, two counts of illegal possession of stolen firearms, and a count of illegal carrying of a weapon.
However, it was later determined that B.G., Fedison, and Pollard had conspired with one another to obstruct justice by having Pollard sign a false affidavit claiming that he, not B.G. or Fedison, was in possession of all three of the firearms found in the vehicle. This led to the rapper receiving a conspiracy charge in addition to the firearms offenses.
In 2011, B.G. entered a guilty plea on all charges, receiving a sentence of 14 years in federal prison and three years of federal supervised released. Fedison was sentenced 20 years after pleading guilty to his charges, while Pollard pled guilty to misprision of a felony, and received a sentence of 30 months in prison.
B.G. sought an early release from prison on multiple occasions during his incarceration, including a motion for compassionate release amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The rapper also had figures like Birdman write letters to the judge requesting leniency on his behalf.
On Sunday (Sept. 3), days prior to his release, B.G. confirmed reports that he was on the brink of being released from prison while celebrating his 43rd birthday. In a post on his Instagram account, the “Bling Bling” rapper vowed that it would be his last birthday spent in prison while professing his intentions of “living and celebrating every day.”
