What Happened Between Sydney Gordon and Maria Georgas on ‘The Bachelor’?
Drama ensued between Sydney and Maria during the second episode of The Bachelor season 28. When Madina Alam, another contestant on the show, voiced her anxieties about being the oldest woman in the cast, Maria made a comment behind her back about how age doesn’t matter. Sydney heard Maria’s response and said that she was being “condescending” toward Madina.
When someone else brought Sydney’s concerns to Maria, the Canadian native was upset that she was being talked about. She brought the situation up to Madina directly. Madina explained, “It made me feel like you didn’t think there was a valid reason [for me] to be upset but there’s much more to this story.” She also made it clear that she was done with the discussion, adding, “That’s why I’m sitting here waiting to talk to Joey. So can we have a different conversation?”
Maria and Sydney eventually had it out, with Sydney accusing her fellow Bachelor contestant of “belittling” Madina’s feelings. They seemed to square things away by the end of the conversation, but Sydney still referred to Maria as “annoying” in a confessional, while Maria called the whole situation “dumb.”
On the February 5, 2024, episode, the drama between the women continued. On the first group date, Joey tried to get Madina to open up about why she was upset. She explained the situation and told him that she felt “bullied” by one of the girls in the house. She did not rat out Maria by name.
After the conversation, Joey told the women that he heard there was bullying happening in the group. He left the date with a lot to think about and Madina told the other girls about the conversation she had with him. Maria was upset that she was being labeled as a “bully” and Madina insisted she never called her that. “I said I felt bullied,” she explained.
At a pool party that week, Sydney pulled Joey aside to fill him in on what was happening.
“Maria instantly started attacking [Madina],” Sydney claimed. “Madina is a really good friend of mine and I couldn’t stand there and hear Maria attacking her.” Sydney said that she then “became Maria’s target” because she told Maria that she was being “insensitive” to Madina’s feelings.
Sydney accused Maria of “verbally attacking” her and creating a “hostile environment” in the house. Joey confronted Maria with the accusations. “I’m telling you … no,” she told him. “I did say to her, ‘You’re calling me a bully and now Joey thinks I might be one. Why?’ I have been really emotional the past couple of days. I have been bullied. This is just not it.”
Maria assured Joey that this feud “stemmed from nothing” and got upset over the world “bully” being “thrown around” so casually. “If you like [Sydney], there’s no way you can like me,” she added. “Because we are completely different people.” At the end of the discussion, Joey admitted that talking to Maria felt “more real” than talking to Sydney. He reluctantly gave them both roses at the third rose ceremony.
However, the drama between Maria and Sydney will continue in subsequent episodes, according to Reality Steve.
