On September 3, Deadline announced that Hayden is joining FBI: International Season 4 in a recurring role. Deadline reports that, according to sources, the actor will play Agent Tyler Booth, “an intelligent and charismatic agent in Budapest looking for assistance on a case.” Look for Hayden to make an appearance later in the show’s season.

Hayden took to Instagram to share the big casting news, writing simply that he’s “very excited” about the new role. He gave credit to girlfriend and Station 19 co-star Jaina Lee Ortiz for the photo. She commented, “Woohoo!!!! Okay side note: took this photo w/ my iphone during Covid, but we need some updated shots asap!”

Hayden’s fans left comments that expressed their excitement over the casting news, with notes including, “WOW! FBI International is going to be amazing!” and “I guess I’ll have no choice but to start watching. ?? I’m still bitter about Station 19 though.”

Others were thrilled to see the pairing of Hayden and Jesse Lee Soffer, who was cast as a series regular on FBI: International Season 4.  In July, TVLine reported that Soffer will play Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell. According to the report, “Wes is described as charming and rakish, an agent whose impeccable instincts and unconventional tactics fuel his drive to stop at nothing to achieve justice.”

One fan commented, “Congratulations Jay! Such exciting and awesome news!! Cannot wait to see you shine in this new role. So excited to see you get to work with your close friend @jesseleesoffer too!” Another noted, “I finally get to see Jay and Jesse together on screen.”

Station 19 was canceled after seven seasons and ended in May 2024.

In a May 2024 interview with TV Insider, Hayden shared his reaction to Station 19’s cancelation. “I was surprised. We have a very strong fan base and when I did an RV trip across the country with my kids one summer, I learned how many people watched this show, which was really nice,” he said. “I did think that we would be on air for a little longer, but I guess the small blessing is at least we got a final season to finish the story because this will be the first show I’ve ever been on that got a chance to do that.”

The actor also reflected on his experience playing an openly gay firefighter. “It’s a huge honor and blessing to play this character and represent that community. I will miss Travis very much. He was such fun to play,” he said. “My parents were laughing so hard when I told them about the role and they were like, ‘Well, at least your girlfriend won’t mind.’ And I said, ‘That’s true, I guess there won’t be any jealousy.'”
