Barbra Streisand responds to the fan letter that Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant wrote to her when he was 14: 'Look at u now!'
Richard E. Grant’s dream has come true, and no, we’re not talking about his just announced Oscar nomination for his turn in the Melissa McCarthy drama Can You Ever Forgive Me? Or the buckets of other accolades he’s collecting for his stellar performance.
Grant received a message from Barbra Streisand — a two-time Oscar winner with three other nods herself — a day after professing his longtime adoration for the singer and actress on Twitter. Grant posted fresh photos of himself excitedly visiting Streisand’s home as a tourist, but he also shared an adorable fan letter that he’d written the star of Funny Girl when he was 14.
He had signed his note “in anticipation of a hasty reply,” but he didn’t exactly get that.
Streisand responded Tuesday, 47 years after the fact.
Dear Richard What a wonderful letter you wrote me when u were 14 ! and look at u now! You’re terrific in your latest movie with Melissa congratulations and love Barbra

No worries, though, because Grant obviously wasn’t holding a grudge.
My pal Nicole Wilcox took this photo as my daughter read me @BarbraStreisand ‘s tweet/response to a letter I sent her 47 yrs ago. Am completely crinkle faced & overcome with emotion. My ‘Message in a bottle’ miracle. 😭😍😇 pic.twitter.com/bJMko098we

Just imagine how excited Grant will be when he runs into Streisand at a Hollywood soirée, something that’s bound to happen soon. Fortunately, as he’s explained, his wife of 33 years, Joan Washington, is understanding of his childhood crush.
