Barry Keoghan Dishes on Why He & His Son Brando Don’t Have a ‘Normal Father-Son Relationship'
Many don’t even know that Barry Keoghan is a proud father of one, and many consistently give him backlash for not posting about his son a lot. It’s a vicious cycle he’s in, and now, she’s not afraid to talk about parenthood, and how his upbringing affected how he parents.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Keoghan talked about being a father to his son Brando, and how, since he didn’t grow up with a father, it’s affected his parenting style.

“I’ll just say this — I didn’t have a father figure growing up, so even my relationship with my son isn’t quite of the normal father-son relationship,” he said. “Because I don’t have that figure to draw from and to base it on.”
Keoghan grew up in foster care. His father was absent from his life and at 12, his mom tragically died. Because of this, he parents differently, but even despite that, he did talk about how much he loves his son.
“Love, you don’t need anything to draw from. Love is pure, and so I’m not on about that, but I’m on about stuff like teaching your son this or teaching your daughter that,” he said.
For those who don’t know, Keoghan and his ex Alyson Sandro welcomed a son together, named Brando, back on Aug 8, 2022. As for Keoghan and Sandro, they dated from Sept 2021 until mid-2023, and then he started dating Sabrina Carpenter.
In a rare interview with GQ, Keoghan talked about fatherhood.
“I feel a responsibility. I feel an enormous amount of pressure, which is good. And I can’t get the little boy off my mind. It’s beautiful,” he said. “It’s crazy, but when he looks at you, you feel like the most important person in the world. That’s the effect he has on me.”
