Netflix confirmed earlier this summer that Murphy was set to return as fearsome gangster Thomas Shelby in the movie, which is directed by Tom Harper (“Heart of Stone”). Harper previously directed episodes from the first season of “Peaky Blinders.”
Steven Knight created the hit series, which is set in turn of the century Birmingham, back in 2013. Knight has returned to write the movie and will also co-produce alongside Murphy and others.
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” Knight said previously. “It will be an explosive chapter in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ story. No holds barred. Full on ‘Peaky Blinders’ at war.”
Rebecca Ferguson is also reported to be in the film, with production set to start later this year.
Keoghan was nominated for an Oscar for his role in “The Banshees of Inisherin” opposite Colin Farrell and won a BAFTA for his portrayal of a devious working class Oxford undergrad in “Saltburn.” He also recently appeared in Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Please, Please, Please.”
In June, the production company that houses “Peaky Blinders” IP, Caryn Mandabach Productions Limited, was snapped up by Banijay U.K. It has since changed its name to Garrison Drama Limited. Caryn Mandabach, who founded the company, has left the company but remains attached as a producer on the film. She has also struck a separate development deal with Banijay U.K.
Deadline was first to report the news of Keoghan’s casting.
