Bastille announce new album and arena tour

Bastille will release their second album, Wild World, Sept. 9, the band announced Friday.

The record follows their 2013 debut Bad Blood, which scored them their first major airplay with “Pompei,” a breathy pop rock anthem that peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The British quartet premiered Wild World‘s first single, “Good Grief” earlier this month, later pairing the bouncy break-up track with a surrealist video that features flash dance bank robbers, a naked giant, and a decapitated head.

Lyrically, Wild World will explore a “fascination with the human condition and the relationships we all forge,” according to a press release. Its album art, which the band revealed early Friday, features two men perched casually atop an expansive cityscape–an image singer Dan Smith says is representative of the themes found throughout the project.

“To me, the image isn’t about what’s just happened or what happens next,” he said in the release. “It’s not about how they got there or how they get down. It’s about sharing a moment–two friends existing in that split second in that exact space, two people framed in the vast context of this huge mad metropolis that we’ve all built. They’re there out of choice.”

Bastille will also tour in support of the forthcoming 14-track collection. The 20-date jaunt will launch July 9 in Perth, Scotland, bopping between North America and the U.K. with stops in London, Chicago, and Montreal.
