‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Minnie Driver Will Voice Gender-Swapped Penguin In Prime Video Animated Series

Minnie Driver is joining the DC animated universe in an unexpected role.

On Saturday, the Academy Award nominee was announced as the voice of Oswalda Cobbelpot, a gender-swapped version of The Penguin, during Batman: Caped Crusader‘s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The first episode of the series was screened during the panel, featuring Driver’s debut as The Penguin.

Driver was in attendance, participating in a talk following the screening with co-stars Hamish Linklater and Jamie Chung, as well as executive producer Matt Reeves. The panel kicked off with a video message from EP Bruce Timm.

J.J. Abrams also produces the 10-episode animated series, which is available to stream Thursday, Aug. 1 on Prime Video.

Linklater voices Bruce Wayne, who ‘becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications,’ according to Prime Video’s synopsis.

The show also features the voice of Chung as Harley Quinn, Christina Ricci as Catwoman, Diedrich Bader as Harvey Dent and Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth.

Additionally, the voice cast includes Mckenna Grace, Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, John DiMaggio, Paul Scheer, Reid Scott, Tom Kenny, Gary Anthony Williams, Dan Donohue, David Krumholtz, Haley Joel Osment and Toby Stephens.
