Baz Luhrmann to Helm New Film About Joan of Arc

Two-time Oscar nominee Baz Luhrmann is teaming up with Warner Bros on his next project, which will be called Jehanne or Jehanne d'Arc, which will detail the life of Joan of Arc, who believed that God sent her to lead an army.

Luhrmann and his team are currently in the process of casting the film's lead, seeking a young female to lead what they are calling "the ultimate teenage girl coming of age story, set in the Hundred Years' War."

Project details are being kept on the down low, with Luhrmann choosing not to comment to Deadline, who reported the news.

No stranger to documenting icons, Luhrmann's last film, Elvis, followed the life and times of music legend Elvis Presley and focused heavily on the complex relationship between Elvis and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Led by Austin Butler as Elvis, the film secured the rising star his first Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and was nominated for a further seven. However, the film ultimately went home empty-handed.

Nonetheless, the film had a successful theatrical run, turning its $85 million budget into $288.6 million at the global box office, and landed a 77% "Fresh" critic rating on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Audiences loved it even more, rating it 94%.

Further details about Jehanne/Jehanne d'Arc are yet to be revealed.
