BBQ restaurant updates Lakewood Ranch closing, downtown Sarasota opening dates

A long-running local barbecue restaurant, recently announced to be leaving its current location and returning to the downtown Sarasota area where it started, has slightly updated each move's date.

Nancy's Bar-B-Q's last day of business at its 14475 State Road 70 E. location at Lorraine Corners in Lakewood Ranch will now be July 4, said owner Nancy Krohngold, with hopes of opening the third week of July at its new location at 1525 Fourth St. in Sarasota's Rosemary District. Krohngold previously told the Herald-Tribune they planned for July 8 to be the final day of business at Nancy's Bar-B-Q's current location, reopening a week later at their new Sarasota location.

The first brick-and-mortar Nancy's Bar-B-Q restaurant opened in 2011 at 301 S. Pineapple Ave. in downtown Sarasota. That location closed its doors in 2020 after a two-block property that included the restaurant site was sold to new owners envisioning a mixed-use project.

Nancy's Bar-B-Q opened a second location on Lakewood Ranch's Main Street in 2016, before expanding in 2019 to a larger space at Lorraine Corners. Krohngold said when she couldn't reach an agreement recently renewing the lease at the Lakewood Ranch location and the Rosemary District space became available, she chose to return to downtown Sarasota.

The 1525 Fourth St. space has housed numerous restaurants in recent years, most recently Oasis Restaurant & Bar prior to its closure in late May, as well as Catrinas Tacos & Tequila BarSalsas & BoogalooServandos and the former location of Chef Darwin Santa Maria's brewpub Darwin's on 4th. The property is owned by Bill Cornelius, who also owns the space that formerly housed Southern comfort food restaurant and music venue The Blue Rooster and is now occupied by Food + Beer, as well as the one that currently houses Station 400.

Nancy's Bar-B-Q's new Sarasota location will be at 1525 Fourth St., which was most recently occupied by Oasis Restaurant & Bar, and has housed numerous other restaurants in the past.

Nancy's Bar-B-Q plans for the menu at its new Sarasota location to be identical to the one in Lakewood Ranch and also offer a full-liquor bar, with seating for at least 150. The restaurant's catering business will also carry over to the new location.

Krohngold said the Sarasota Nancy's Bar-B-Q will likely keep the same days and hours as the Lakewood Ranch location, which is currently open daily at 11 a.m. For more information on Nancy's Bar-B-Q, visit nancysbarbq.com.
