Bebe Rexha and Colbie Caillat share their own 'American Idol' audition stories
Another round of all-star duets took place Monday night on American Idol and, interestingly enough, two of the celebrity guests happened to have an American Idol history of their own.
Pop singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, who was working on her duet with Maddie Poppe, told the Idol contestant, “You know, the craziest thing is that I auditioned for American Idol twice. I actually came in with my song ‘Bubbly.’ But, I wasn’t ready at all. I had such stage fright, and I realized I had a lot of work to do with myself.” Caillat also said it felt “bizarre” to be performing her hit song “Bubbly” on the Idol stage so many years later, while another artist, the up-and-coming Bebe Rexha, shared similar feelings.
“Funny thing is, I auditioned for American Idol, but I didn’t make it,” Rexha told her duet partner Amelia Hammer Harris. “So, for all you watching out there, you just never know!”
Like Caillat and Rexha before them, five contestants were eliminated. However, Katy Perry had some words of encouragement for Effie Passero, Amelia Hammer Harris, Shannon O’Hara, Alyssa Raghu, and Ron Bultongez as she pointed out that Caillat and Rexha were two very good reasons not to give up on their dream. “You know, you got to duet with a couple of people tonight that never made it on this show that are bona fide stars,” Perry said. “So, if that doesn’t give you a great example of, like, I can do it ….”
