BEEF: Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny Confirm Season 2 Roles
Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny are confirmed to engage in a BEEF for Netflix.
It was reported back in February that Melton (Riverdale, May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Devs, Civil War and currently starring in Alien: Romulus) were being eyed to play one of two feuding couples in Season 2 of the Emmy-winning dark comedy. (Former Brokeback Mountain and Love and Other Drugs co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway were said to be in talks to play the other pairing, but there has been no word on that since.)

Now, individual interviews with Melton and Spaeny have referenced their upcoming BEEF gigs — even if Netflix has yet to double-secret officially confirm either casting or that a Season 2 has even been ordered.
“It’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever read,” Melton told VMAN of his BEEF Season 2 role. “Yeah. I’m very excited. That’s all happening soon.”
A recent New York Times profile on Spaeny, meanwhile, said that she will shoot BEEF Season 2 after wrapping Netflix’s Knives Out 3 movie aka Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
“I cannot wait. I love that show so much and it’s such brilliant writing,” Spaeny told EW at San Diego Comic-Con last month. “I am so excited to jump in.”
BEEF Season 2: Everything We Know About Series’ Possible Return
BEEF Season 1, which starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong and dropped in April 2023, crushed awards season back in January. At the Golden Globes, creator Lee Sung Jin said, “We always pitched the season … as an anthology series. It was always going to be a new beef, new characters.”
After sweeping both the Emmys, Lee discussed the possibility of a second season for the heretofore limited series.
“I feel like there are so many paths,” he told reporters. “It was a very close-ended story, for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology. It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.”
TVLine has reached out to Netflix for comment on Melton and Spaeny’s castings, and, once again, on BEEF‘s Season 2 renewal as a whole.
