Ben and J. Lo are still officially married because their divorce has not been finalized yet. However, the singer filed to end the marriage on August 20, 2024. Her divorce filing came on the two-year anniversary of their Georgia wedding and she listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024.
In November 2023, Jennifer gushed about her marriage to the Good Will Hunting star during an interview with Vogue.
“Ben wants me to understand my worth and know my value. I feel even more relaxed and comfortable, which makes me feel even more beautiful than I have ever felt with someone else,” Jennifer told the publication.
At the beginning of 2024, Ben and Jen’s romance was fully in the spotlight thanks to the release of her album This Is Me…Now and documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told. Although the documentary was meant to highlight Jennifer finally finding “the one” after three failed marriages, the differences between her and Ben were also put on display.
One scene of the documentary featured Ben shaking his head while speaking about Jennifer sharing the pair’s private love letters. “I did really find the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it's the greatest love story never told, and if you're making a record about it, that seems kind of like telling it,” he quipped.
The Oscar winner also pointed out his and Jennifer’s different approaches to the spotlight, which seemingly ended up taking a toll on their relationship. “I had a very firm sense of boundaries initially, around the press, while Jen, I don't think objected to it in the way I did. I did very much object to it,” he said. “Getting back together, I said, 'Listen, one of the things I don't want is a relationship on social media.' And then I realized it's not a very fair thing to ask. It's like you're going to marry a boat captain, and you go, 'Well, I don't like the water.' You know? We're just two people with different approaches trying to learn to compromise.”
Meanwhile, the Hustlers actress added, “I don't think he's very comfortable with me doing all of this.”
In May 2024, a source revealed to In Touch that the couple was headed for divorce and they “couldn’t make it work.”
“The writing is on the wall – it’s over,” the insider explained in an interview published on May 15, 2024. “They’re headed for a divorce – and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!”
The trouble only continued from there as Ben and Jen spent the entire summer apart. While Jennifer was mostly on the east coast, living it up in the Hamptons and New York City, Ben was back in Los Angeles with his kids. The two did not celebrate their birthdays together and were apart for the two-year anniversary of their Las Vegas wedding in July 2024.
