Ben Affleck Missed Jennifer Lopez’s Met Gala Appearance for This Understandable Reason
When Jennifer Lopez stepped onto the 2024 Met Gala red carpet on Monday night, heads were swiveling in hopes of catching a glimpse of her husband, Ben Affleck. What was he wearing to adhere to “The Garden of Time” dress code? Well, he wasn’t in New York City even though his wife was a co-chair of the event this year.
Before anyone starts a rumor about the state of their marriage, the 51-year-old actor had a very good reason for missing J.Lo’s big fashion night. A rep for Affleck told People that his filming schedule prevented him from attending the Met Gala with Lopez. The dynamic duo has been enduring a long-distance marriage while he works on The Accountant 2 in Los Angeles, and she is on set for the movie musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman, in New York.

The two A-list stars with very busy careers are reportedly finding the separation difficult, even though it’s only temporary. “This is the first long stretch they’ve spent apart in a while,” a source told OK! magazine. “And they’re both dealing with it in different ways.” Affleck throws himself into his work, but the “On the Floor” singer needs a little more TLC. But another insider told Entertainment Tonight that they are on the same page when it comes to their home life. “Jen and Ben are supportive of one another and just want the best for their relationship and family,” they shared.
While Lopez probably missed having Affleck by her side on the red carpet, we have a feeling that Affleck was somewhat relieved to have missed such a public event. He attended the 2021 Met Gala while they were dating, but he skipped the red carpet. He was later spotted sporting a dashing tuxedo and posed with Lopez in her daring V-neckline gown by Ralph Lauren — and you know right away that it was a pandemic-era event because they were both sporting face masks.
Of course, the Oscar winner’s work situation was also another way to avoid any “Sad Affleck” chatter, which he’s addressed often after a major event. “Listen, I have a very unhappy-looking resting face,” he joked to Jimmy Kimmel last year. “It’s how God made me; you don’t have to punish me for it.”
