Ben Affleck says ex Jennifer Lopez’s performance in ‘Unstoppable’ is ‘spectacular’
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez may be getting divorced, but Affleck still has nice things to say about his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Affleck and Lopez worked together on the forthcoming sports drama “Unstoppable,” with Lopez starring and Affleck producing through his and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity production company. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker spoke highly of Lopez’s work on the inspirational film.

“Jennifer is spectacular,” Affleck said while comparing “Unstoppable” to another film he produced that’s getting released now, “Small Things Like These.” “‘Unstoppable’ is a very different movie than this, but in a way, it is similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists, and [director] Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and [actors] Don Cheadle and Jharrel [Jerome] and Bobby Cannavale, all of whom were really passionate about this film.”
Lopez plays Judy Robles, the mother of Anthony Robles, played by Emmy winner Jerome. Anthony Robles is a wrestler who was born with only one leg. Overcoming his circumstances, he won the 2011 NCAA individual wrestling championship.
“It kind of speaks to a certain kind of thing, I guess, we’re drawn to, which is we really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply emotionally connected to the story,” Affleck said. The film is written by Eric Champnella, Alex Harris, and John Hindman and based on Robles and Austin Murphy’s memoir “Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion.”
“Unstoppable” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, just two weeks after Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck after two years of marriage. The film will get a limited theatrical release starting on Dec. 6 and will stream on Prime Video on Jan. 16. Amazon released a trailer for the film last week.
