After Platt stepped down from the titular role in the Tony-winning musical, Galvin was announced as his replacement in November 2017. From there, they developed a close friendship that eventually turned into a romance.
"We were friends for five years, and right before the pandemic we finally decided to really give it a shot. We kind of skated around it for a long time," Platt told Kelly Clarkson in 2021 of how their relationship developed.
For Galvin's birthday in 2022, Platt wrote on Instagram, "happy birthday my guy. you’re the most special gift the universe has ever whipped up. thank goodness you were born. I love you so much."
In a previous interview, Platt told PEOPLE what he admires most about his fiancé: "His ideals are very pure and his standards and principles are very pure and he expects a lot of people and he holds people to a high standard, and doesn't want to fake or lie or pretend or phone in emotional connection or intelligence or understanding."
"He really wants the real thing," The Politician star continued. "And that makes situations more uncomfortable sometimes, more difficult sometimes. But his relationships are so much more meaningful because of them, including ours."
