Bernie Sanders says mitten maker 'overwhelmed' by all the attention his inaugural meme has created
Sen. Bernie Sanders appeared Thursday on Late Night With Seth Meyers. And while he wasn’t wearing the mittens and coat from the viral picture of him at the recent presidential inauguration, Sanders was happy to talk about the memes they’ve generated.
The picture is of Sanders sitting alone, bundled up in fairly casual winter clothing. Based on his appearance and posture, he could really be at any event. After quickly realizing this, literally thousands of people started photoshopping him into different locations, including iconic movie and TV scenes, as well as historical photos.

While Sanders didn’t seem to mind the extra attention, he revealed that the woman who made his now-legendary mittens was not quite ready for her 15 minutes of fame.
“The woman who made the mittens lives in Essex Junction, Vt.,” said Sanders. “She is a school teacher and is a very very nice person and she’s been somewhat overwhelmed by the kind of attention that is being shown to her mittens.”

Sanders was happy to talk about his amazing memes and mittens, but there was one topic from the inauguration that he refused to discuss. Another popular image from the inauguration featured Sanders holding a manilla envelope. But when Meyers asked what was inside the envelope, he got shut down.
“I’d love to tell you Seth,” said Sanders, “but it’s top secret.”
