Top 5 Moments of Episode 6:
1. Gata Hits Rock Bottom: I have been critical of the flaws of each tribe so far but watching Gata after the last Tribal Council was just sad. Andy Rueda with undeserved confidence might be the saddest image of the season. Poor dude really will have the rug pulled from under him when Sam Phalen decides he doesn’t need him anymore.
2. Three Become One: The anticipated merge came at the perfect time, honestly, as some people really needed this to stay in the game. Bonus points for round two of Sue Smey vs the red paint, which was quickly found by the other players. The pre-merge group was presented with the opportunity to find an advantage for the all-important upcoming challenge, which made the proceedings even more exciting yet hilarious since the obvious buoy was ignored by Sam. Genevieve Mushaluk trusted her gut and celebrated with the others. I was also struck by how Rome and Kyle Ostwald’s late-night conversation was perfect for the former to worm his way in with his new frenemies. Kyle realized his mistake a little too late, as the voteless man targeted Rome.
3. The Challenge of the Season So Far: In a weird way, I would really want a crack at this challenge. With two teams of six competing in the first stage and the lucky six competing for the bat shaped Immunity Idol and only one of them being guaranteed a spot in the merged tribe, Genevieve won the ability to bypass the first stage altogether. Kyle won the first individual challenge by showing us just how competitive the rest of the season will be.
4. Who Has to Go?: The winners enjoyed a reward, but Sam was not thrilled to hear that Andy was on the chopping block. Luckily enough, Andy does have a piece of that amulet and pushed his fellow holders to play theirs as well. Rome was targeted by Solomon “Sol” Yi, which was not a surprise. Rome, not one to take this lying down, did his best to prevent that from occurring and targeted Sol.
5. An Important Elimination: While it was nice to see a crowd at Tribal Council, Jeff wasted no time diving into recent developments. Rome addressed the Amulet Advantage head-on from Jeff’s seat, which might be a first for the show. Bonus points for Andy speaking German after casting his vote for Rome. With an overwhelming majority, Rome was shown the door, ending Sol’s nightmare. The new purple buff tribe left with smiles on their faces, which is great since the game only gets tougher from here on out.
