Beth Chapman's death drove Dog the Bounty Hunter to have suicidal thoughts
On Wednesday’s season finale of Dog’s Most Wanted, cameras captured the heartbreaking moments after Beth Chapman died from cancer. The footage also revealed her husband Duane Chapman, known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, struggled with suicidal thoughts.
Beth had been battling cancer for years. It started as stage 2 throat cancer but eventually spread throughout her body until she succumbed to the disease in June.
Less than 12 hours after her death, Dog opened up about his grief. “I just hope that I don't live very much longer without her because now she made the first step, she's through the gate,” said Dog. “She's paved a way for me.”
Dog also suggested taking pain pills to end his grief. He said, “I feel like if I did something to myself right now and passed away, suicidal, and I got to Heaven, I'd go, ‘Hi, honey!’" But he then wrestled with how the heavenly embodiment of Beth would respond to his suicide.
“Would she go, "You dumb ass, why did you do that?" or would she go, "Wow, you're here!" contemplated Dog. “I'd be like, ‘Of course I'm here, I love you.’”
Follow the aforementioned heart-wrenching clip, the WGN America displayed information for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. And while the subject was not broached again during the show, it is clear that Dog did not harm himself.
The Chapman family, along with friends and community leaders held a traditional Hawaiian memorial service for Beth, casting ashes into the sea. And later a funeral was held at the church they regularly attended.
