The book, which debuts Oct. 1, features a high-profile murder mystery in the city’s most extravagant mansion, the daring exploits of a handsome cat burglar, a toxic Tinseltown love triangle ending in gunplay, a Rat Pack barroom brawl, a brazen Rodeo Drive jewelry store holdup and an Oscar-nominated actress on a startling shoplifting spree.
“Beverly Hills Noir is the culmination of 30-year fascination with the darker underbelly of the city known for its wealth and glamour, beginning when I started my journalism career there at a local newspaper,” said Huver in a statement. “The number of cases I discovered, either through historical research or my own reporting, that could only have happened in Beverly Hills blew me away.
“Over the years, as my career veered solidly into entertainment reporting, I continued to delve further into their details, and when the pandemic hit I finally found the time to assemble some of my very favorite stories for Beverly Hills Noir. I hope to keep telling even more,” he added.
After starting out as a police and crime reporter in Beverly Hills, Huver has gone on to a prolific career as an entertainment journalist at Deadline, People, CNN, InStyle, TV Guide, Vulture, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Los Angeles Magazine. He also co-authored the 2001 book Inside Rodeo Drive: The Stores, the Stars, the Story with Mia Kaczinski Dunn.
