Coincidence? … Maybe, but it’s fortuitous timing nevertheless. Beyoncé is set to perform during the halftime show for the upcoming NFL game between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, which will stream exclusively on Netflix on Christmas Day. That just so happens to be right in the middle of final-round Grammy voting. Will it help her finally win top honors from the Recording Academy?

The 67th Annual Grammy Award nominations were announced on Nov. 8, and Beyoncé didn’t just lead the nominations. She crushed records — again. Already the most awarded individual in Grammy history with 32 career wins, this year she racked up another 11 nominations, the most ever for a female artist in a single year, and the most for a single album (“Cowboy Carter”). On top of that, it brought her total number of nominations to 99, which makes her by far the most nominated individual in the awards’ history.

What’s also impressive is that Beyoncé submitted in 12 categories at the Grammys, so there was only one nomination she could have gotten but missed: Best R&B Song for “Tyrant.” She got in everywhere else, including noms in pop, country, rap, and Americana categories. So she’s the front-runner to win Album of the Year for “Cowboy Carter,” right?

Under normal circumstances, you might assume so, but this is Beyoncé we’re talking about. The Grammys are like Lucy with the football when it comes to her music: she’s always nominated for tons of awards, and she tends to win a lot in genre categories, but only one of her 32 trophies has come in one of the big four general field races: Song of the Year for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2010.

She was the frontrunner for Album of the Year for her self-titled album in 2015, but lost to Beck‘s “Morning Phase.” She was the frontrunner again for “Lemonade” in 2017, but lost to Adele‘s “25”; she even used part of her acceptance speech to admit Beyoncé should have gotten it. And she was the frontrunner for “Renaissance” in 2023, but lost to Harry Styles‘ “Harry’s House.” The Grammys keep setting her up, only to pull the rug out from under her at the very end.

Now Beyoncé is performing for the NFL, and she’s not waiting for the Super Bowl. The Christmas Day performance lands about halfway through the Grammy voting period of December 12 through January 3, when Academy members mark their ballots for the 2025 winners. Will this finally be her key to victory? Make or update your predictions here in our predictions center.
