Beyond Paradise season 2: release date, cast, plot, and everything we know
Beyond Paradise season 2 is finally here, with episode two airing on Friday 29 March at 9 pm on BBC One. Note the later time than the first episode.
The second series again follows the adventures of DI Humphrey Goodman, played by Kris Marshall, in Shipton Abbott. And the new series could finally see Humphrey and Martha tie the knot!
The opening episode saw Humphrey and Esther join the Shipton Abbott Players for a murder mystery rehearsal. Though Humphrey is only playing a detective, things turn from amateur to professional when the actor playing the victim is found dead with a real knife in his back.
As the duo tackle the perplexing crime, they soon unravel a dark past that reveals hidden connections between the actors. Away from the case, Humphrey and Martha embark on the process of becoming foster parents, while Anne catapults herself into the world of online dating.
While in episode two a clairvoyant predicts unusual events that begin occurring in the life of a recently bereaved woman. The team starts to suspect that the psychic's powers might be too good to be true, as the woman starts ending up in more and more dangerous situations. When the officers discover a connection to her deceased grandfather, everything begins to fall into place. On the home front, it's a big day for Humphrey and Martha as they attend their fostering interviews. The pair are intent on demonstrating how earnest they are to proceed.
The first series of the Death in Paradise spin-off was a huge hit, so it's no surprise we have a new six-part series. And there's another spin-off in the pipeline too, Return to Paradise, which is set in Australia.
Here's everything we know...
Beyond Paradise season 2 release date
Beyond Paradise season 2 began on Friday 22 March at 8 pm on BBC One. Episode 2 airs on Friday 29 March at the later time of 9 pm on BBC One. You can catch previous episodes on iPlayer. We don't have a US release date yet.
Beyond Paradise season 2 plot
During a chat on The One Show, Kris dropped a few plot hints, saying: "We've got a murder on a steam train, a medium who predicts arson attacks — that's quite a good one — a local fishing legend lost at sea. We've got loads of good stuff."
Also, with Humphrey and Martha now reunited following the emotional series finale we'd expect them to finally get married in the second series. And that opens up a huge number of Death in Paradise crossover possibilities. Could Camille Bordey (Sara Martins) even return to watch her old boss get hitched?
Behind-the-scenes pictures have shown Humphrey and Martha apparently getting married in the fictional Devon town of Shipton Abbott. Martha is wearing a traditional wedding dress, although she does have flip-flops on as they're on the beach! While Humphrey looks smart-ish in a suit — well he’s always a bit disheveled! So it strongly looks like the wedding will take place in series 2.
Meanwhile, the heart of the series will once again be in Shipton Abbott, with Humphrey, Esther and co solving more crimes. They will be trying to make sure they solve as many crimes as possible so Humphrey's boss doesn't have an excuse to close the police station.
We'd imagine Esther's character will be developed more in the second series and we'd expect lots of exciting guest stars.
Kris told us that the show is moving on from the IVF storyline which featured in the first series. Talking to us before the festive special, he said: "I'm very proud of how the IVF storyline was handled — I think it's an important story to address well, because it means so much to so many people and you don't want to mess it up. But we're moving on now, we're onto Humphrey and Martha's next steps in their journey, whatever that might be. I will leave the good viewers to pontificate whatever they think that journey could be!"
The new series sees Humphrey and Martha embark on becoming foster parents.
