Spooky season has arrived a little early for the Big Brother houseguests, with something even scarier than any horror movie could hope to be: a double eviction.

After weeks of anticipation, Season 26 finally pulled out Big Brother‘s most classic twist on Thursday, staging an entire week of gameplay in just one hour and ultimately booting two players in a single episode. Heading into the whirlwind hour, it seemed replacement nominee Leah was poised to head to jury… but that was before that bright blue terror Ainsley alerted the house to her double eviction plans.

Did Leah remain the target for Thursday’s first eviction? And who else was sent to the jury house before the hour was up? Let’s unpack how the eventful episode unfolded:

* First, in a pre-taped segment, Makensy invited Leah up to the HOH bedroom, in hopes of clarifying why Leah was named as a replacement nominee. In short, Makensy had heard through the grapevine that Leah saw Makensy and Chelsie as big threats, and wished she would have taken a shot at either of them during her HOH reign last week. But after reiterating that she never would have targeted Makensy under any circumstances, Leah informed her (and Chelsie, who had since joined the conversation) that it was Kimo who initially told her that she ought to put the Chelsie/Makensy/Cam trio in her crosshairs. (That’s an accurate allegation, as a flashback to footage from Jankie Week helpfully reminded us.) After the chat, both Makensy and Chelsie seemed skeptical that Leah was a threat to their games, after all… but the damage had already been done, and Leah had no chance of coming off the block.

* Despite an earnest (if scattered) pre-eviction plea to her fellow houseguests, Leah was evicted by a 4-0 vote — and on the day of her lucky number, 26, even! Hey, at least she’s off to see Quinn at the jury house, and she seemed delighted by that prospect.

* Next up: the Head of Household competition, where houseguests were asked true-or-false questions about the video messages they received from Deepfake Julie earlier in the week. Chelsie started off strong with a string of correct answers, but Angela made an impressive late-game comeback, forcing her and Chelsie into a tiebreaker. The question: In minutes, how long was that cheery weirdo Jankie overseeing the BB game, from his very first appearance to his destruction at the end of the week? Unfortunately, Angela overshot with her answer of 15,500 — the real answer was 10,102 minutes — leading Chelsie to win the game with her guess of 1,080. She nominated Angela and Kimo, privately telling her allies that she hoped for Angela to get the boot.

* In the Power of Veto competition, all six remaining houseguests were challenged to navigate a series of “proton balls” along a winding, wobbly path that they controlled, with the aim of successfully sinking five balls into their tube at the end of the maze. Rubina showed promise as the game got underway, but it was ultimately Kimo (nice!) who sank five first, winning himself the Power of Veto. Before the show cut to commercial, Chelsie privately asked Kimo whether he’d prefer Rubina or Makensy as the replacement nominee, reiterating that anyone sitting next to Angela would ideally be a mere pawn. He urged for Makensy to go up in his place, but…

* …to no one’s surprise, Rubina was named the replacement nominee. And after weeks of cheating Big Brother game death, Angela was evicted by a 3-0 vote — but it was as joyful a departure as you could probably get on this show! Angela thanked her housemates for the best summer of her life, and confirmed with glee that she would have taken Kimo to the Final Two, given the opportunity. Plus, despite telling Julie Chen Moonves that she is not typically as emotional as she was in the BB house, Angela went out with the exact kind of weepy, impassioned exit interview we’d expect from her, letting us all in on the self-discovery journey she went on this summer. But somewhere, Matt “Crazy Eyes” Hardeman is extremely pleased with this outcome.

With that, I hand it over to you. How do you feel about Leah and Angela leaving the Big Brother game? And with just five houseguests left, who are you hoping wins it all? Drop a comment!
