Big Sean Samples Usher’s “Superstar” In New Snippet From ‘Better Me Than You’

Just days before releasing his next album, Big Sean is giving his fans more to be excited about. During a live interview with Billboard’s Carl Lamarre on Tuesday (Aug. 27), the Detroit rapper spoke in-depth about the forthcoming project, Better Me Than You, and also treated attendees with a snippet of an unreleased song that is slated to appear on the LP. The track notably samples one of Usher’s most well-loved hits “Superstar.”

“I just want to say, when I played this for the artist who I sampled, he was like, ‘F**k!'” Sean exclaimed before he played the record for the crowd.

As Usher’s signature high-pitched run looped in the background, the “I Know” spitter rapped, “Yeah I freak it from the back, you a superstar/ You know who you was, I know who you are/ All she need is a platform, all she need is somebody who gon’ go to bat for her/ Soon as she leave the house, make her come back for her/ Who gon’ hold that a**, make it wanna clap for.”

Although Big Sean seems to be in great spirits leading up to his release day, the journey to unleash the project has not been easy. Earlier this week, the father of one took to Instagram Live to update fans on why the album has been pushed back multiple times, as he opened up about his doubts and recent COVID diagnosis.

“I’ve been having a hard time lately, straight up. It has not been easy,” he told his followers. “You make art, you put your heart into this sh*t… When I had COVID last week, I was down and I was still working on the album.”

In addition to the Usher-sampling snippet, he has also treated fans with singles like “Yes,” “Together Forever” with The Alchemist, and “On Up.” Check out the music videos for the tracks below.
