Written and directed by Jeff Nichols (adapted from the 1968 book of the same name by Danny Lyon), “The Bikeriders” takes place in the ’60s and follows the Vandals Motorcycle Club, a gathering of outsiders from Chicago, led by Johnny (Tom Hardy). Under his leadership, the motorcycle club turns into a life of crime as a biker gang throughout the decade.
The film also stars Comer, Butler, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook, Emory Cohen and Norman Reedus.
As for the quality of “The Bikeriders” itself, Variety film critic Peter Debruge called the film, “cool personified.” Debruge wrote in his review, “While it could be accused of romanticizing some pretty damaged characters (the real-life Benny abused his wife), ‘The Bikeriders’ doesn’t pretend that motorcycle gangs can’t be dangerous. Still, it goes a long way to humanize figures who’ve been long misrepresented on film, while giving audiences privileged access to this inner world.”
“The Bikeriders” is available to watch at home starting on Aug. 9 exclusively on Peacock, which costs $7.99/month or a discounted annual plan for $79.99 (12 months for the price of 10). It is also streamable in 4K Ultra HD online on Prime Video, Apple TV and other video-on-demand platforms. You can either buy the film for $24.99 or rent it for $19.99.
