Bill Maher on Paris attacks: 'Why do they hate us?'
On Real Time With Bill Maher, host Bill Maher addressed Friday’s deadly attacks in Paris by posing a question to his panel: “Why do they hate us?”
His guests — Dylan Ratigan, Michael Steele, and Jay Leno — responded initially with silence.
“I’ve stumped the panel,” Maher joked. The group then began discussing the motivations behind extremists’ attacks on Western countries and the Republican Party’s approach to foreign policy.
“It’s like when you watch Star Trek,” Leno said during the discussion. “Kirk goes to the other planet and he brings democracy. They don’t want it. They don’t care about it.”
Maher also addressed the attacks at the top of his show, singing an abbreviated version of the French national anthem.
“Now I’m not a very good singer,” he added, “but that’s my way of saying, ‘We’re with you.’”
