Billy Bush says it was 'a beautiful thing' that George H.W. Bush invited Trump to his funeral before he died
Entertainment news host Billy Bush sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and shared what it was like seeing President Donald Trump at George H.W. Bush’s funeral in the aftermath of the scandal that cost him his job at “Today.”
Billy Bush was fired from “Today” after behind-the-scenes audio from a 2005 interview with Trump leaked, which featured Billy laughing at Trump’s description of his inappropriate behavior with women.
“Trump went to that funeral, so you got a chance to see him. That was the first time, I assume, that you saw him since that tape broke?” DeGeneres asked Billy.
“A lot of people thought, ‘Was there any interaction? Did you run into him?’ and I didn’t,” Billy said. “I was sitting in the middle of the church and, of course, he’s the last one to enter for security reasons. But I saw him,” said Billy.
Billy also revealed that before he died, George H.W. Bush specifically stipulated that he wanted Trump to attend his funeral.
“I thought it was a good thing, a beautiful thing,” said Billy about his uncle’s request. Billy said the former president didn’t want his legacy to be that he “blackballed” Trump. “Then that’s all people talk about instead of the things that happened under his watch,” added Billy.
“It’s fantastic that he was forgiving like that,” said DeGeneres.
But not everyone on Twitter was as forgiving of Billy Bush’s past mistakes as his uncle was of Trump:
