Billy Idol officially becomes a U.S. citizen: 'And he did it the proper way'
Billy Idol is officially a U.S. citizen — and the rocker managed not to tick off people online with his naturalization ceremony, a rare accomplishment these days.
The official Twitter page of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services tweeted photos of Idol getting his citizenship Thursday. “It’s a nice day for a naturalization ceremony,” they shared. (The government’s got puns!)
Given the fact that immigration is one of the touchiest political topics currently, it was refreshing to see that the comments were, well, mostly nice. Maybe that’s because people were happy he did it the “right way.”
@BillyIdol thank you for becoming a US Citizen the correct way.

Congratulations. He didn’t sneak in. How refreshing

Of course, there were a handful of uncreative caravan-type jokes.
Did he sneak in with the caravan?

Did Billy Idol swim the Rio Grande to get here or did he jump the fence?

Lotta trouble for nothing. You could just sneak into California and get the same benifits. That’s how it works.

A comment about Idol taking jobs from hard-working Americans, like former Journey frontman Steve Perry, showed a bit more flair.
Another foreigner coming to take jobs from hard working Americans like Steve Perry….and that guy from REO Speedwagon

Overall, people seem pretty pleased with the newest U.S. citizen.
