A source close to Firerose alleges she walked away without any settlement
Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose have settled their divorce, PEOPLE confirms.
The resolution comes following seven months of marriage and nearly three months after Cyrus, 62, subsequently filed for divorce from Firerose (previously known as Johanna Hodges), 36, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.
At the time of filing, the musician/actor also requested an annulment on the grounds of fraud.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE on Monday, Aug. 5, Cyrus' attorneys said the former couple had reached a settlement agreement on Friday, Aug. 2.
"This past Friday the parties reached a settlement agreement at mediation to dissolve their 7-month marriage, and the Court declared the parties divorced this morning," said Rose Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo & Garrett. "Mr. Cyrus is relieved to put this nightmare behind him."
They noted that "a couple of weeks ago, prior to mediation, Ms. Hodges legally changed her last name from 'Hodges' to 'Cyrus,'" which Cyrus believes "validates his assertion that his ex-wife's sole impetus for marrying him was to obtain his last name."
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer said he was "very relieved" by the outcome of the proceedings.
"Giving thanks today to breathe a sigh of relief," wrote Cyrus.
He added that "it’s unfortunate" that their relationship "played out this way."
"...It was a matter of the heart," Cyrus concluded. "Love is blind ... that’s for sure. B. R. C."
A source close to Firerose claims she filed her last name change shortly after they wed.
"This was not something she just did last week, especially following the ongoing smear campaign by his team," they told PEOPLE.
The insider also added that Firerose chose to "walk away without fighting for money in order to be done with the volatile relationship and anything having to do with Billy."
The source also claims that Cyrus and his team "had included a clause asking Firerose to admit she was lying about BRCA" in the settlement, which was "easily thrown out" when she showed her test results and medical records "to prove otherwise." (Cyrus had previously claimed that his ex had known about being a carrier for the BRCA1 gene mutation for four years, meaning she has an increased likelihood of developing breast cancer, but was unaware of her condition until after their marriage. Firerose claimed that Cyrus filed for divorce in May just one day prior to when she was set to undergo a preventative double mastectomy.)
"If this went to trial, Firerose and her team would have provided a significant amount of evidence to prove he fabricated a narrative that would benefit his public image," they said. "There is no doubt she would have been awarded the divorce, but it was much more important to her that this continuous smear campaign end."

Cyrus and Firerose were married in October 2023.
Since the country star filed for divorce in May, the split took a rocky turn, with both parties accusing the other of abuse in court filings.
The Australian singer accused Cyrus of “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse” in documents filed June 14, while her ex filed paperwork 10 days later alleging he was verbally, emotionally and physically abused by Firerose.
In a separate filing, Cyrus claimed that Firerose “had been conducting a campaign to isolate” him from his family, including barring him from communicating with one of his daughters; meanwhile, Firerose told the New York Post's Page Six in June that her ex had “very strict rules,” and accused him of “systematic isolation.”
On July 10, Cyrus was granted an emergency motion to freeze his estranged wife from using his credit cards after he claimed his ex spent $96,000 of his money following the divorce filing. At the time Cyrus initially filed the emergency motion, Firerose responded that there was in fact “no emergency,” and claims that she made 37 unauthorized charges were “untrue.”
The order said the former couple needed to “exchange income and expense statements as well as asset and liability statements” by July 11, and must have “good faith meditation” no later than Aug. 31.
On Wednesday, July 24, PEOPLE obtained an audio recording in which a man who sounds like Cyrus was heard berating and belittling Firerose.
The audio features the man who appears to be Cyrus in a row with the singer-songwriter about being late for an event, which a Firerose source claims was a Nicki Minaj concert Cyrus was invited to perform at in Tennessee.
"It's 9:15 you idiot. I needed to leave two hours ago," Cyrus said in the clip obtained by PEOPLE.
"No, you didn't. You can still leave and get there in time," Firerose replied.
Throughout the conversation, Cyrus was heard telling his ex to “shut the f--- up” and called her a “f---ing selfish bitch” while she asked him to “please stop screaming at me.”

At the time, Cyrus' attorneys shared a statement with PEOPLE calling the recording “an apparent last-ditch effort to squeeze money out of Mr. Cyrus" by Firerose "who made the recording without telling Mr. Cyrus that she was recording him."
Amid the audio leak, Firerose shared an Instagram Story about "healing."
"This week has been monumental in many ways and I'm so appreciative and thankful for the outpouring of support," she wrote. "There are so many great experts, books & resources on healing."
Firerose added: "I promise there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Keep educating yourself."
