'Black Mirror' Reveals Season 7 Cast, First 'Sequel' Episode
Charlie Brooker's dystopian anthology series Black Mirror is returning for a seventh season on Netflix in 2025, and the all-star cast of the upcoming season has now been revealed. The groundbreaking series is also seeing its first-ever sequel outing to the season four episode "USS Callister."
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the longline of the new season reads: "Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series will return in 2025 with six brand new episodes, including a sequel to the sci-fi adventure 'USS Callister.'"
The new cast members will include Awkwafina, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Paul Giamatti, Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd, Issa Rae, and Tracee Ellis Ross, all in unknown roles. Rounding out the cast to make their Black Mirror debuts are also Spanish-British actress Patsy Ferran, Scottish actor Lewis Gribben (Blade Runner 2099), Paul G. Raymond (Deadpool & Wolverine), and British actresses Siena Kelly, Rosy McEwen, and Harriet Walter (Succession).
Likewise, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Billy Magnussen, and British actors Osy Ikhile and Milanka Brooks are expected to reprise their roles for the sequel to "USS Callister."
On Thursday, Netflix posted a cryptic teaser on social media with the new cast members as well as some Easter eggs, including a nod to "Tuckersoft," a reference from the show's 2018 interactive film, Bandersnatch.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Brooker opened up about doing a Black Mirror sequel for the first time ever.
“This has been brewing for actually quite a long time. And it’s partly because of the way that it ends. The first one ends like you could just carry that story on and follow where they go now," the series creator explained. "There were various iterations it went through, various versions we wanted to do and were discussing on and off for several years. But there are a lot of schedules to sort out, and then the pandemic got in the way. It was something that looked like it wasn’t going to happen, and so I was delighted when it did."
"We continue the story from where we left off. And there are some new characters as well," Brooker added. "There is new stuff to do with where they’ve now ended up versus where they were."
The plot of both the sequel and other five new episodes are being kept tightly under wraps, as well as an anticipated release date. But the new episodes will be streaming sometime in 2025.
