'Black Panther' star Chadwick Boseman surprises unsuspecting fans
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman surprised unsuspecting fans as they thanked him and spoke about what the blockbuster film means to them. The fans were instructed to talk to a movie poster under the guise that they’d be appearing in a video for Boseman. But he, and sometimes Fallon, popped out from behind a curtain next to the poster.
Fan messages for Boseman ranged from sweet to grateful, and the reactions when he appeared were just as diverse. Some laughed. Some cried. One ran away. Boseman also tailored what he said or did to what the fan had expressed.
When one admitted seeing Black Panther three times — once as a bootleg — Boseman popped out and said, “Wait. You gonna bootleg my movie?!”
Another fan, after getting over the initial shock at Boseman’s appearance in the flesh, remembered to show the proper respect by crossing his arms over his chest, bowing, and saying, “My king. My king. My king.”
Maybe the most touching moment came when Boseman surprised a mother and her young son. The woman said, “My son’s life has been defined by Barack Obama and now Black Panther. So thank you.” Boseman appeared and said, “Hey, that’s way too much praise.” The kid was shocked, and you can see the exact moment that he realizes he’s meeting Black Panther as his jaw slowly drops and his eyes widen. He was literally speechless.
