The Blacklist season finale pits Harold Cooper against Raymond Reddington
Marvin Gerard (Fisher Stevens) has sent the task force into chaos.
The Blacklist season 9 finale will see Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) and Raymond Reddington (James Spader) at odds. In an exclusive clip from the episode, above, the two fight over Red's lawyer, who was recently exposed for being responsible for Elizabeth Keen's (Megan Boone) death. "As the FBI gets closer to finding Marvin Gerard, the quest to bring him to justice for Liz's death pits Harold's freedom against Red's desire for revenge," executive producer John Eisendrath teases to EW.
Cooper has had a very tough season because of Gerard. After being framed for the murder of his wife's former lover, the seasoned FBI agent broke rules in an effort to remain free. Ultimately, he ended up having to hand the reins of the task force to Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison), and he's trying to avoid prison time.

While Boone left the show at the end of season 8, Elizabeth's death has been a driving storyline of season 9. It began with Agent Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq) getting blamed by Red for exposing her, but the pair mend fences and discovered someone else was responsible. After a season-long hunt, the Task Force learned that Gerard — angry with Red for planning to leave his operation to Liz — was behind it. The first part of the season finale explainedhow Gerard planned to have Liz killed in order to take over Red's organization himself.
With these threads crashing into one another, Cooper and Red risk their partnership because of their opposing goals.

The Blacklist jumped forward in time two years after Liz's death and spent season 9 establishing a new normal for the members of the Task Force. Several episodes have filled in the gaps of that time — like how Aram started a business that ended up biting him in the ass. Adventure for Red and the Task Force lie ahead even after tonight's finale; the show has been renewed for season 10.
The Blacklist season finale airs Friday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
